P&G GLAD SPONSOR PROJECT

September - December 2019

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The contents of this project are subject to NDA with Procter and Gamble

The Story:

The P&G Glad department wanted to continue to pursue sustainable technology, so my team was sponsored by P&G to utilize and develop our design skills for these objectives.  Through collaborative design research, brainstorming, and iterative prototyping, we worked on serving the fast-paced, on-the-go lifestyle of the every-day young professional.

My Impact:

This was the first time that I was a part of a team where every member on the team shared equal responsibility for every step of the process. This was one of the most collaborative experiences I have ever had for a design project. However, I did lead a bit more in Data Analysis and Journey Mapping.

PROCESS

Execution: What I either participated in or I took sole ownership of for this project

Objective: The goals or purpose of what I executed

SECONDARY RESEARCH

Execution: Look through science articles, blogs, and current/existence solutions

Objective: Want to get an initial idea on problem scope and insight from a third-person perspective

IN-HOME VISIT RESEARCH

Not authorized to provide pics or video

Execution: Visit eight consumers’ homes for observations and interviews

Objective: Discover key tensions and emotions as well as develop a journey map based on these visits

SYNTHESIS FOR NEEDS

Execution: Break-down quotes and organizing the qualitative data acquired from the in-home visit

Objective: Narrow problem scope and honed into key insights and tensions that tie in with the main problem at hand

1ST CONSUMER VISIT RESEARCH

Not authorized to provide photos or videos

Execution: Conduct designed procedures of activities with the consumers

Objective: Gather more user motivations, needs, and wants through user empathy

BRAINSTORMING

Execution: Create drawings, sketches, and descriptions or possible solutions in quick spurts

Objective: Get a whole range of possible solutions and then hone into the deemed “probable” ones that are aligned with the objectives with our user group

PROTOTYPING

Execution: Create lo-fi prototypes with foam core, paper, and tape

Objective: Finally have physical models of the possible final products to see the logistics and limitations of these prototypes

2ND CONSUMER VISIT RESEARCH

Not authorized to provide photos or videos

Execution: Create lo-fidelity prototypes with foam core, paper, and tape

Objective: Finally have physical models of the possible final products to see the logistics and limitations of these prototypes

FINAL SOLUTION

Presented a model and explanation to provide a clear visual with a final prototype and story telling to present the user’s journey with using our final product. Everything was then given to P&G for their use.

SKILLS

Design Research (researching, data analysis and synthesis)
Storytelling (persona building and journey mapping)
Lo-fi Prototyping (sketches, drawings, foam core)
Iterating
Brainstorming

TAKEAWAYS

I learned that you should never underestimate how many iterations any part of the design process can take and how communication is absolutely important for everyone to be on the same page and work efficiently together.
