MYE
September - December 2019
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Story:
For a design communications course, my team needed to design a website and animatic to communicate design ethics in terms of the treatment of women in design and design leadership. My team created MYE, which originally was an acronym for our team-members’ names but turned out to be a word in Thamal which indicates the eyeliner that women wear under the eye. This eyeliner represents the beauty and power of women, so we chose this as it’s most befitting for our message we want to communicate.

My Impact:
I partook in the whole process of the design project, but my main responsibilities were Design Direction, Interaction Mapping, and Script-Writing.
PROCESS
Execution: What I either participated in or I took sole ownership of for this project
Objective: The goals or purpose of what I executed
Result: What actually happened from the Execution
SECONDARY RESEARCH
Execution: Researched existing design websites that discuss design ethics
Objective: Look for the tone and language utilized by color, language, and font
Result: Decided that we wanted our site and animatic to be casual, straightforward, yet professional while addressing the importance of femininity in leadership
MOOD BOARDING
Execution: Decide color schemes, fonts, stock images, and language into one visual board
Objective: Provide an image of how the website and animatic will be presented and what type of tone we want to evoke as well as what emotions we want the viewer to feel
Result: Felt that the dual blue and pink color will be a soothing representation of both male and female and choosing a font that would be casual as well as straightforward

STORY-BOARDING
Execution: Planned out what the video will look like
Objective: Tell the visual story that we can present and receive feedback on
Result: Video tells of the current issue of today in the unequal treatment of women in design. Received feedback that it appeals only to women and not to our intended audience of everyone who works in design
SCRIPTWRITING
Execution: Write a narrative that accompanies the visuals of the video
Objective: Put more emphasis on the story to effectively communicate the problem and goal to the whole audience
Result: Told the story of instances that happen to many women in industry in a language that appeals and makes sense to everyone regardless of gender.

ITERATIONS
Execution: Based on feedback by peers and professor iterate the visuals, video editing, wordings, and script
Objective: Constantly make the website and animatic better to effectively and clearly share a message
Result: The website and animatic gave an accurate and clear message of the problem of unequal treatment of women in design and how to solve this issue
FINAL SOLUTION
Website: This website serves as a way for both men and women to take an oath in design to treat all designers, men or women, in the same respect. In return for taking the oath, they are included into a database of mentors and fellow mentees to match up and work in design. The pink shows the support for women, but the font and language appeals to both men and women supporters on the severity of the issue. The icon of the eye showcases the meaning behind the name.

Animatic: This video is about a minute and a half long video that addresses the current issue of the inequality between men and women in design. We utilized clean, simple drawings, simple language in narrative, and video edits to give a clear visual aid on what the problem is and how we can fix it.

TAKEAWAYS
I learned how important it is to have as many people as possible view and give feedback on your product. If we did not show others our website and animatic, I would not have known that there is a particular jargon that appeals to just women or just men, but jargon is to be eliminated and language elevated for everyone. Language and visuals are vastly important to accommodate people with multiple backgrounds.
